Weta Workshop is making a new 'Lord of the Rings' game

New Zealand based special effects company Weta Workshop is making a new video game based on JRR Tolkien's fantasy novel. The same company also did the special effects for the movies of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy.

Weta Workshop has not given details about the new game. However, technology site Verge commented that the company will not lack the resources to make the game.

The company said in a recent press release, “Middle-Earth Enterprises has licensed the literary works of the series. Weta Workshop has virtually the largest license to adapt the book's stories to its own”. Verge reported, Weta has teamed up with US video game publisher Private Division for a new Lord of the Rings game.

The game developer and publisher have not given any information about when the game will be released. However, it is believed that the new game may debut in the market at any time between April 2023 and March 2024.

This is not the only attempt to bring JRR Tolkien's fiction to the silver screen. 'The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power' TV series produced by Amazon is going to be released soon. Along with the TV series, another video game based on the story 'Golam' was slated to come the market at the same time. But the game's release date has been delayed due to complications in the construction process.

On the other hand, game maker ‘Electronic Arts’ is making a free-to-play mobile game based on the same fictional story. The company will soon begin testing ‘The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle Earth’ according to The Verge.
