Twitter fixes security bug after eight months

In December last year, a hacker named 'Devil' stole the information of about 5.4 million users by exploiting a technical flaw in Twitter. Later, hacker sold the information online in exchange for money. Twitter initially denied the cyber attack but later reported it, attack was carried out by exploiting a 'zero day' flaw.

This time, almost eight months after the cyber attack, Twitter has updated their security to eliminate the flaw.

This technical flaw was active on Twitter for eight months before the security update. As a result, hackers could steal the information of Twitter users at will.

Twitter did not provide any information on how many users information was stolen using the flaw in eight months. In a statement, Twitter said, ‘‘We first became aware of the security flaw last January. This technical glitch was caused by a software update on Twitter in June last year. Security flaw has been removed after investigation’’.

Along with the security updates, Twitter also sent messages to alert users whose email and mobile numbers were leaked. Twitter also advises users to use two step security features.
