Qatar to use drones to protect FIFA World Cup stadiums

DroneHunter® F700

Drones will also be used for security at this winter's FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. According to the agreement with Qatar's Ministry of Interior, these interceptor drones will be supplied by the US-based company Fortem Technology. The company said the deal reflects growing concerns over potential drone strikes.

Fortem also said that these automatic radar-guided interceptor drones are named DroneHunter®. It slows down the targeted drone and forces it down to the ground. As a result, the risk of injury is greatly reduced, Where such apprehension remains if weapons are used.

Timothy Bean, chief executive and co-founder of Fortem, told the BBC that targeted drones would be identified 'using a series of very small radars'. These radars will be spread around the venue and produce a live image of the airspace.

The company claims that the drone buzz will not match the roar of the fans in the stadium. Because the machines will be 'several miles or more' from their work area.

The Utah-based company has received sponsorship from Toshiba and Boeing. The company will work with Qatar's Ministry of Interior and Safety and Security Operations Committee for the World Cup to be held in November and December.
